Hourly to Salary Calculator
At $25 an hour, working 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, you earn $52,000.00 a year before tax: $4,333.33 a month, $2,000.00 every two weeks and $1,000.00 a week. The usual shortcut is hourly rate × 2,080 = annual pay, because 40 hours × 52 weeks is 2,080 hours a year. To go the other way, divide a salary by 2,080: $75,000.00 a year is $36.06 an hour. Enter an amount and say whether it is hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, monthly or annual, and the calculator shows all seven, with optional unpaid weeks off, a different work week and overtime at 1.5×. Every figure is pay before tax.

How to convert hourly pay to salary
- Enter the amount and pick its period. Type the pay you know, such as $25, and choose hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, monthly or annual. To turn a salary into an hourly rate, enter the salary and choose annual.
- Set the work week. The defaults are 40 hours a week, 5 days a week and 52 weeks a year, which is 2,080 paid hours. Change the hours if you work a different schedule; at 30 hours a week the same rate gives $39,000.00 a year.
- Add unpaid weeks off if you have them. Enter the weeks you are not paid for. Paid holidays and paid vacation stay in the paid weeks. Two unpaid weeks turn $52,000.00 into $50,000.00.
- Add overtime hours if you want them. Enter the extra hours you work each week beyond your regular hours. They are paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate and added on top: 40 regular hours plus 5 overtime hours at $25 an hour is $61,750.00 a year.
- Read the table. The table shows hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, monthly and annual pay, in dollars and cents before tax. The row you entered is marked.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert an hourly wage to an annual salary?
- Multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work in a week and by the paid weeks in a year. At $25 an hour, 40 hours a week and 52 weeks, that is $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000.00.
- Why is hourly × 2,080 equal to annual pay?
- A full-time year is taken as 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, and 40 × 52 = 2,080. So $25 × 2,080 = $52,000.00, and dividing a salary by 2,080 gives the hourly rate. The shortcut only holds for that schedule. At 37.5 hours a week the multiplier is 1,950, and with unpaid weeks off it is smaller.
- Do paid holidays and vacation change the conversion?
- No. Paid holidays and paid vacation are paid, so those weeks still count among the 52, and 2,080 hours at the hourly rate is still the whole year. The conversion changes only when time off is unpaid: each unpaid week takes one week of pay out of the year. At $25 an hour, 2 unpaid weeks make the year $50,000.00 instead of $52,000.00, and 4 unpaid weeks make it $48,000.00.
- How do I convert a salary to an hourly rate?
- Divide the annual salary by the paid hours in the year, 2,080 for a standard schedule. $75,000.00 ÷ 2,080 = $36.06 an hour. Enter the salary, choose annual, and the calculator also shows the daily, weekly, biweekly, semimonthly and monthly amounts.
- What is the difference between biweekly and semimonthly pay?
- Biweekly pay comes every two weeks, 26 pay dates a year, and each check is two weeks of pay: $2,000.00 in the example. Semimonthly pay comes twice a month, 24 pay dates a year, and each check is the annual pay divided by 24: $2,166.67. The annual total is the same; semimonthly checks are larger because there are fewer of them.
- How do I work out monthly pay from an hourly rate?
- Use the annual pay divided by 12, $4,333.33 in the example, not four weeks of pay. A month averages 4.33 weeks, so four weeks ($1,000.00 × 4 = $4,000.00) understates it.
- How is overtime calculated?
- Under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), covered employees who are not exempt must be paid at least one and one-half times their regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek. Enter your overtime hours and the calculator pays them at 1.5 times the hourly rate and adds that to the regular pay. In the example, 5 overtime hours a week at $25 an hour is $187.50 a week at $37.50 an hour, $9,750.00 a year, for $61,750.00 in all. It uses the hours you type; it does not decide for you whether you are owed overtime.
- Does overtime depend on the day or only on the week?
- Under the federal rule it is the workweek, a fixed, regularly recurring period of 168 hours (seven 24-hour days), and hours are not averaged across two weeks. Working a Saturday or a holiday does not by itself create overtime under the FLSA. Some states, California among them, also require overtime for hours over a set number in a single day, and have extra rules for a seventh consecutive day. This calculator does not model daily overtime or any other state rule, so in those states treat its overtime figure as the weekly part only.
- Is this before or after tax?
- Before tax. Every figure is gross pay: it does not subtract income tax, payroll tax, retirement or health contributions or any other deduction, and it does not estimate take-home pay.
- Is anything I type stored or sent?
- No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing you enter leaves your device.
How it works
The amount you enter is read exactly, as a fraction, and turned into an hourly rate for the regular hours: hourly as typed; daily divided by the hours per day (hours per week ÷ days per week); weekly divided by hours per week; biweekly divided by twice the hours per week; and semimonthly, monthly or annual pay divided by the paid hours in the year (hours per week × paid weeks, with semimonthly × 24 and monthly × 12 first). Paid weeks are the weeks per year minus the unpaid weeks off; paid holidays and paid vacation are paid weeks and never subtract. From the hourly rate, weekly pay is the rate × hours per week, biweekly is twice that, annual is weekly pay × paid weeks, semimonthly is annual ÷ 24, monthly is annual ÷ 12 and daily is the rate × hours per day. Overtime hours, if any, are paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate and added to the regular pay for the weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, monthly and annual rows; the hourly row shows the overtime rate and the daily row shows regular pay only. If you enter a salary, it is taken as the pay for the regular hours, with overtime added on top. Each figure is rounded to the cent once, from the exact value, half up, so no rounding error builds up from one row to the next; a row multiplied back by hand can differ from another by a cent. The tool treats hours as one fixed work week and does not model tax, benefits, deductions, bonuses, shift differentials, daily overtime, exempt or salaried-exempt pay rules, or any state rule, and nothing here is legal or payroll advice. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
